Izidora Androna (Simulynas) Mantautas, beloved wife of Vaidievutis "Andrew" Mantautas, passed away at home, on Thursday, February 9, 2012. She was born in Lithuania on May 10, 1931, came with her family to the United States as a displaced person after the Second World War, and finished her education in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she was among the first women to enter the then new field of radiography as a radiologic technologist. She worked at Memorial Hospital in Worcester, before marrying, and moving with her husband to West Hartford, Connecticut, her home of forty years. She founded the Worcester chapter of the Lithuanian Girl Scouts Association, and kept her connection with young people throughout her life, with a kind word and motherly smile. She is survived by her sister, Grazina (Simulynas) Bazikas, her daughter and son-in-law, Idalia Mantautas and Ronald Lehmkuhl, her nephew, nieces, and their children, her neighbors of many years, the aides and care givers who helped her remain in her own home, and her husband of fifty-one years. Funeral services will be held privately, at her request. For online condolences, please visit www.taylorandmodeen.com.
