Patriotic Emblem

Thomas M. Dworak, 71, of West Hartford died Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Saint Francis Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Murray) Dworak and father of Theodora and Thomas Dworak, Jr.

Born and raised in Hartford, the son of the late Frank and Theodora (Demchuk) Dworak, Thomas served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He spent his entire career in the glass business. After working for others, he founded the Hartford Glass Company in 1991 which he ran with pride for nearly 20 years. He was a past president of the Connecticut Glass Dealers Association and member of the American Legion.

Thomas's greatest joy was time spent with his family. He coached Theodora in the West Hartford Girls Softball League for years and helped found a town travel team which won a championship in 2002. He travelled all over New England while his son snowboarded competitively. He never missed one of his children sporting events.

For years he entertained friends and family at the Christmas Tree House, his ski house in Killington, VT. "Tommy Tree" welcomed skiers for 36 years. He truly reveled in cooking elaborate meals and ensuring everyone had fun. This joy in entertaining carried over to his holiday meals that both family and friends looked forward to.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; his daughter Theodora Dworak, MD and her husband John Rizzo of Bethesda, MD; his son Thomas M. Dworak, Jr. of Gypsum, CO; his brother Frank Dworak, Jr. and his wife Delores of Rocky Hill; and his sister Irene Elder and her husband John of Florida. Uncle Tommy had a great love for all his nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Thomas Dworak may be made to Saint Francis Hope and Healing Fund, 95 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105.
