William V. Sassi, 93 8/31/1923-2/24/2017 of West Hartford, CT.

Survived by: his loving wife Maria Picone Sassi, who is a local area Poet & Playwright; his son William C.; and his daughter-in-law Mary Beth.

Mr. Sassi was the President of the John Sassi Memorial Fund for Leukemia, which he founded in 1968 in memory of his youngest son John. The Fund donated medical research equipment to Hartford area hospitals, including a treatment room at the Connecticut Children's Medical Center.

Bill was a decorated WWll Master Sargent, who served under Gen. George S. Patton as a Sherman Tank Commander in the 3rd Army, 4th Armored Division.

He earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Phi Beta Kapa from SMU in Dallas TX; and a MBA degree cum-laude from U of H. He taught graduate level Business Administration for over 25 years at University of Hartford, Central Connecticut State Univ. and Univ. of Connecticut .

Additionally he innovated in Research & Development technologies for the Apollo Space Program, weather satellites, turbo-fan jet engines, and ground level development of the Internet at: IBM, UTC and NERAC.

Calling hours will be held at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main St., West Hartford, CT on this Monday, 4 pm to 8 pm; and Tuesday, 8 am to 9:30 am prior to the Funeral at 10 am at St. Peter Claver, 47 Pleasant St., W. Hartford, CT.

Memoriums may be given to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Hartford, CT
