Roger Allen Lawson (86) of Bloomfield, CT passed away after a brief illness on September 7, 2016 with his loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Wallace Lawson.

Roger was born in Sylvan Grove, Kansas on October 20, 1929, and graduated from Kansas State University in 1952. He served in the United States Air Force as an instructor in Pre-Flight Training until his discharge as a 1st Lieutenant in 1954. Roger had a 34-year career at the Aetna Life Group Division, retiring in 1989 as Regional Director of Financial Services, Employee Benefits Division. Roger then served for seven years as Vice President, Investment Sales at Connecticut National Bank retiring again in 1996. Roger was a Chartered Life Underwriter and taught CLU classes for 15 years. Throughout his life, Roger was an active member of the communities in which he lived. He served as President of the Springfield Life Underwriters, the Longmeadow Men's Club as well as the Springfield Jaycees. He was active in both the Springfield and Hartford Rotary Clubs, served as President of the Old Guard in West Hartford and served on the Membership Committee of the Hartford Golf Club where he was an avid golfer, tennis and paddle tennis player. Roger will always be remembered by his family and many friends for his love of life, sportsmanship, and sense of fun.

Roger was predeceased by his parents, Sidney and Helen Cross Lawson, both of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, and two brothers, Sidney, Jr. and Clare and two sisters, Kathleen and Mary. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret, and their son, Hugh and his wife, Sandra and two grandsons, Nicholas and Henry, as well as sister-in-law Ruth and niece Rebecca Townsend.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, September 14th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT. A reception and celebration of Roger's life will be held at The Hartford Golf Club on Sunday, September 18th from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm, 134 Norwood Road, West Hartford, CT. Friends are invited to attend. Memorial contributions can be made to Kansas State University and the Roger Lawson Scholarship Fund at the First Tee of Connecticut.
