Robert Elwin Ashcraft of West Hartford died peacefully on March 7, 2017. He was born on September 23, 1923, to Leva (Frith) and Bernard Alfred Ashcraft in Clearfield, PA. He graduated from high school in 1941 and attended Penn State University until he enlisted in World War II. He served as a communication sergeant for three years with the 304 Infantry of the 76th division, seeing action in Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Germany. In 1948 he graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon) and in October he married Barbara Keast and moved to West Hartford. He was employed by The Travelers, retiring in 1985 after 37 years of service. During his employment he was the officer in charge of the Printing, Duplicating and Supply Divisions. He was a member of the Old Guard, past president of the Hartford Club of Printing House Craftsmen, a former trustee of the Mark Twain Memorial, member of the Sunflower and Cattail Fishing Club, and past president of the Fernleigh Lawn Bowling Club. He served as an Elder and Trustee of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 68 years, three children and their spouses, Jonathan and Lora Ashcraft of West Hartford; David and Teri Ashcraft of Naperville, IL; Betsy and Tripp Sheehan of Wellesley, MA, and six grandchildren, Jennifer and Robert Ashcraft of West Hartford, Eric and Katherine Ashcraft of Naperville, and Timothy and Jonathan Sheehan of Wellesley. He is predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Belsley of Houston, TX.

A memorial service will be held at Westminster Church on Saturday, March 11th at 11:00 am. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers,memorials may be sent to Westminster Church 2080 Boulevard, West Hartford, CT 06107.
