Penelope Poppas Skenderian departed this life to continue her spiritual journey on Tuesday, August 22, 2017. Born in Richmond, Virginia on April 23,1937, the daughter of Andreas and Panayiota Poppas, Penny spent most of her adult life in West Hartford, CT and recently, winter months in Naples, Florida. Penny's life was filled with fun adventures creating memories with her family and dear friends. She is survived by her husband Bob and their children, Gerry Skenderian and his wife, Ingrid, Lesley Skenderian and her partner, Michele Parrotta and her four grandchildren, Lillian Parrotta, Aram Skenderian, Robert Parrotta and Gerald Skenderian. Never one to be idle, Penny enjoyed an active work and social life. She was a natural for selling real estate in the greater Hartford area. Thereafter, in the insurance industry and as an administrative assistant to the Dean at UCONN Health Center, Penny was known for her proficient writing skills and professional demeanor. A life master, bridge was Penny's greatest passion. She was also an avid tennis player and golfer. The youngest of nine children, Penny was predeceased by her brothers Nick, Phillip and Gregory Poppas and her sisters, Eva Tulumaris, Pauline Kraley, Madeline Peifer. She is survived by her two sisters, Kary Flaskas and Katherine Alexander and many beloved nieces and nephews. Above all, Penny adored her family, her grandchildren and her treasured friends. In the true the meaning of the word, Penny lived life to the fullest and we will always remember her beautiful smile, delightful personality and kind heart. A Service of Celebration of Penny's life will be on Monday, August 28th at 11:30am at Asylum Hill Congregational Church 814 Asylum Ave. Hartford, CT. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Penny's memory to ConnectiKids, Inc. at 814 Asylum Avenue, Hartford, CT 06105.
