Paul A. Melvin, 83, of West Hartford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully late Monday afternoon, January 9, 2017.
Born in Holden, Massachusetts, on November 9, 1933, Paul graduated from Worcester North High School and Clark University before entering the US Army in 1956. He graduated with honors from the Army Language School in Monterey, California, and worked for the Army Security Agency, with a lengthy assignment in Germany.
After his military service, Paul embarked on a long and successful career in insurance, retiring as a Vice President from the Roberts Agency in Bloomfield, Connecticut in 2012. He was a past President/State Director of the Hartford board of the Independent Insurance Agents of Connecticut. In addition to his career, Paul had an interest in sports, enjoying basketball, tennis, and bowling, and he was a passionate fan of Boston professional sports teams. He was also an avid collector of classical and jazz recordings.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, William and Muriel (Clark) Melvin of Worcester, Massachusetts, and his brother William of Oxford, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife, Linda J. Melvin of West Hartford, daughter Meg Melvin of Washington, D.C., and daughter Amy (Melvin) Truskoski , son-in-law Aaron, and granddaughter Annabelle; all of West Hartford.
His family wishes to acknowledge all the wonderful staff at West Hartford Health and Rehabilitation Center who helped them through this difficult time, and the nurses and nursing assistants of the Tranquility unit who provided such kind and compassionate care to Paul during his time there. They would also like to extend their gratitude to Hartford HealthCare Assisted Living at Home, Hartford HealthCare Hospice, and Kate Thaisz of Sage Solutions, who gave Paul's family invaluable assistance in managing his care this past year. And to Karen Connelly, longtime family friend, a special thank you for her strength, comfort, and love.
