Marion G.Spear, 92, lifelong resident of West Hartford, died peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stuart and Marcelle Spear of West Hartford and her brother and sister in law, Roger and Mary-Ellen Spear of Saint Louis, MO.

Miss Spear was a long-time member of First Church of West Hartford and The Town and County Club of Hartford. She enjoyed many life interests, including international travel, bridge, attending the symphony and other cultural events. Miss Spear took particular pride in her French heritage and in her historic family home. She attended Wellesley College and was a graduate of Mary Washington College. As a great supporter of education and tradition, Miss Spear continued to be a generous alumna throughout her life. She was retired after a career spanning many years with Connecticut General Life Insurance Company.

Miss Spear is survived by two nieces, Nancy (Roger) Lockwood and Susan Bowman, both of Saint Louis, a great-nephew, Jason (Catie) Bowman, two great-nieces, Gina (Todd) Chandler and Christy (Doug) Walls, several great-great nieces & nephews, as well as cousins and their families in France. In her later years, Miss Spear was thoughtfully assisted by her caring neighbor, Brian Lehan. Her family has special appreciation for the fine staff at Hughes Health & Rehabilitation for the kind and caring assistance they provided. She was a beloved family member and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford, CT with the Rev. Elliott Munn officiating. Burial will follow at Cheshire Hillside Cemetery, Cheshire. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations be made to charitable foundations of donor's choice.
