Janet (Fairbanks) Potter, 73, of Bristol, wife of the late Richard E. Potter, died Sunday, August 28, 2016 at Brookdale West Hartford. Born in Hartford, the daughter of Daniel and Edith (Swanson) Fairbanks, Janet grew up in Windsor. She graduated from Windsor High School, Class of 1961, and went on to graduate from Becker Junior College in 1963 with an Executive Secretarial AS Degree. Janet began her career with Aetna Insurance Company and, after taking time off to raise her family, spent many years with Mass-Mutual retiring in January 2016 from their Charter Oak Insurance and Financial Services Company. Janet was a long-time active member of Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hartford where she served on the Altar Guild and with their Sprout Program. She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, and following the Red Sox, Patriots, and UConn Huskies. Janet leaves two children Jeffrey Potter of Bristol and Jennifer Jarvis, her husband Steven Jarvis, and their two children Olivia Paige and Ethan Michael Jarvis, all of Simsbury. She also leaves her brother and his wife, Dr. Gilbert and Brenda Fairbanks of Greenville, SC; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 311 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT 06106. There are no calling hours. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emanuel Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or Alzheimer's Association.
