Jane C. Sullivan, 95, of West Harford died Friday, January 27, 2017 at St. Mary Home. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert H. Sullivan, who passed on March 20, 2007. Born on February 6, 1921 in Harrisburg, PA, the daughter of Elizabeth Brown Compton and Max Roswell Compton, Jane moved from Harrisburg to Bridgeport CT with her parents when she was 12. Her family eventually settled in Hartford where she graduated from Hartford High School. She met her future husband, Robert, when she was in high school and they were together from then until he passed in 2007.

Jane and Bob married on April 9, 1942, settled in Hartford and had their first child ten months later. During WWII, Bob enlisted in the Air Force and was eventually stationed in Louisiana. To keep her family together, Jane and her two-year-old daughter, Diane, traveled by train to join Bob in Louisiana where they stayed until the end of the war.

Jane and Bob returned to Hartford in 1945 and eventually settled in West Hartford where she lived for the rest of her life. Jane was a soloist in her church choir throughout high school, a talented artist, and an amazing cook. She took great joy in making her home a welcoming and comforting place to be, decorated beautifully and always full of stunning floral arrangements created from the many plants and bushes that filled her yard.

Jane was a member of the Alter Guild at Christ Church Cathedral, the church she attended for many years with her family. Later in life Jane became a member of St. James's Episcopal Church in West Hartford where she was actively involved in that church's women's group. Jane was a loving daughter, mother and grandmother who will be missed terribly by all who knew her.

Jane leaves two daughters, Diane Sullivan of Niantic CT and Gayle Page of Stow, MA; her son in law, Bill, also of Stow, MA; and granddaughters Megan Page of Astoria, NY; Erin Page of Bridgewater, MA; Caitlin Roberge of Medford, MA. She also leaves her longtime companion and caretaker, Beverley Davis, of East Hartford, CT who was like another daughter to Jane.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of the assisted living unit at the McCauley, along with her personal aide Anna Tonino, for all they did for Jane while she lived at that facility. They also want to thank the incredible nurses and aides who work on the third floor at St. Mary's, in particular Nola and Carol, for the loving care they gave to Jane and her family, especially during the last few weeks of her life.

Funeral services will be Friday 11 a.m. at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.
