Isabella Arcell, 88, of West Hartford died Thursday, May 11, 2017.  Born in Hartford, the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Maria Luisa (Maiochi) Lanza, She was a resident of West Hartford for over 65 years.  She graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in West Hartford.  She was married to Andrew J. Arcell who passed away in 1964.    The couple had three boys and made their home in West Hartford.

After her husband passed away, and without any experience in banking, she took a position with South End Bank & Trust and rose to the position of branch manager.  She remained with the bank through several ownership changes before taking a position with Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, where she retired after 10 years.
Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her son Andrew J. Arcell.  She leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Katherine Arcell of New Orleans, La., and Paul and Cathleen Arcell of Caldwell, N.J.  Nonna also leaves her grandchildren, Rachal Bezou-Denoux of Harahan, La, Caroline Arcell Burdo of Atlanta, Ga,, Christopher Arcell of Denville, N.J., Andrew Arcell of Caldwell, N.J., and Katherine Arcell of Caldwell, N.J; and her great-grandchildren Danielle and Declan Denoux of Harahan, La.

She is also survived by her loving companion of over 50 years, Lewis C. Nye of West Hartford.

Isabella loved cooking and she and Lewis traveled extensively after retirement. She delighted in sharing her knowledge of Italian food and cooking, always willing to teach others the family recipes.  But most importantly, her mother and she taught the children how to make meatballs.  She also was a beloved neighbor cooking , teaching and helping with neighborhood problems.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at the Church of Saint Mark the Evangelist, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford.  Family and friends will be received Monday, May 15, 2017 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford.  Contributions in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.  For directions and online condolences, please visit
