Herbert David Ristow, of West Hartford and Bloomfield, died on August 8, 2017 surrounded by family at the distinguished age of 92. Born on Septmeber 3, 1924, Herb would be the first to say he lived a good life. Herb had a lifelong passion for design. Starting at age 19, he worked at G. Fox & Company and then A.J. Skendarian and maintained his own consulting business "H. Ristow Interiors." Herb served his country in the U.S. Army for 21 years, beginning in 1948. He was honorably discharged as a Chief Warrant Officer. He taught design and decoration at Hillyer College (now the University of Hartford) and taught for the Connecticut Department of Education and continuing education classes for the town of West Hartford. Herb married Margorie May Wakeman in 1954. He spoke often of her since her death in 1997. Herb enjoyed visiting with family and would often bring home made cakes or pies. He is survived by his daughter Julie LaCava and her husband Dominic and their children Sara and her husband Jacob Lieberman; Joseph and his fiancee Jessica Foster; and Amy, as well as his son David Ristow and his wife Marilyn and their children Jessica and her fiance Brian Allaire; and Rebecca.

Calling hours will be held at Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford on Thursday, August 10th from 5:00-7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 1655 Boulevard, West Hartford on Friday August 11th at 9:30 am, followed by a burial at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford. Herb's kind-hearted nature, thoughtfulness, and smile will be missed by all who had the good fortune of crossing his path. For directions and online condolences, please visit
