Patriotic Emblem

Gary E. Rouillard, 85, of West Hartford, husband of Muguette "Midge" (Veilleux) Rouillard, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Hartford, the son of the late Peter and Dora (Dowds) Rouillard, Gary graduated from Hartford High School and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He took a position in sales with Halmar Distributors and when he and Midge married in 1965, the couple worked as a team, side by side, until his retirement in 1990. Gary earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Hartford later in 1968, and in retirement, he worked as a stock broker, and prepared taxes with H.R. Block. The most enjoyable part of life was the extensive travels that he most enjoyed with the love of his life, Midge. Gary's social life revolved around Rockledge Country Club where he golfed for years. He was a most avid reader, especially enjoying books of history. He boxed in his youth and enjoyed the sport throughout his life .He and Midge enjoyed dancing and their nightly routine game of cribbage. Gary was also a member of the American Legion (Post-96). Besides Midge, his wife of nearly 51 years, he is survived by four children and their significant others, Allan Archambault and Diane Dupuis of Colchester, Joanne and Mike Frehse of Charlotte, NC, Gary and Rosanne Archambault of Bloomfield, and Michelle Hebert and Jason Schaffrick of Farmington; five grandchildren (all the apple of his eye), Johannah, Amanda, Craig, Amy and Logan; and three great-grandchildren, Michael, Julia, and Elijah.
Family and friends will be received at the Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, 136 South Main Street, West Hartford TODAY, Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 5 – 8 p.m. and Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 10 – 11 a.m. with words of remembrance at 11 a.m. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the Hartford Hospital Staff at North-9 and the Conklin Building for their compassionate care.
