Ellen May (Child) Kelsey, long-time resident of Hartford, CT, passed peacefully on the morning of Wednesday the 22nd of March, 2017 at the Hebrew Center for Health and Rehabilitation in West Hartford, CT.

Born the 25th of May, 1928 in Pembroke, NH, Ellen graduated as valedictorian from Pembroke Academy. She went on to graduate from Mount Holyoke College where she received a bachelor's degree in nursing, and continued her education at the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her RN. Ellen completed her education with a master's degree in nursing administration from Columbia University.

Ellen enjoyed a long career as a visiting nurse in the Hartford area before moving to Immanuel House in 1996. It was at Immanuel House that she met Rev. Herbert Olin Kelsey, Jr. whom she married on Valentine's Day 1998.

She enjoyed breeding and showing Siamese cats. She was an accomplished violinist who played with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. She also sang in the Berkshire Choral Festival for many years, but found the most joy in singing in the choir at Immanuel Congregational Church, of which she was a member for over 50 years.

Ellen was predeceased by her parents, Roswell Towle Child and Dorothy Emma Knapp of Pembroke, NH, as well as her brother Edwin Lee Child, M.D. She is survived by brother David L. Child, M.D of Phoenix, AZ, and his family, as well as Barbara Child, widow of Edwin, and their family. She also leaves behind husband Herbert and her five loving stepchildren, as well as four step-grandchildren.

A memorial service and celebration of Ellen's life will be held at 10 am on the 8th of April at Immanuel Congregational Church, 10 Woodland St, Hartford, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Masonicare Home Health and Hospice, 22 Masonic Ave, Wallingford, CT 06492. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements.
