Betty Gwyn Messenger Morcom, born in 1924, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Thursday, July 28, 2016. Betty was the daughter of the late Harold T. Messenger and Nell G. Messenger. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 62 years, William M. Morcom, as well as her brother, Richard G. Messenger. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Gwyn (John Anthony) Charles, William (Victoria) Morcom Jr., and Elizabeth (Thomas) Kenney. She deeply loved her three grandchildren; Katharyn (David) Ridgeway, Joseph Morcom, Elisabeth Morcom, and many nieces and nephews. Betty lived in West Hartford her whole life, and was graduated from Oxford School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Randolph-Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Virginia. Betty was a life-long member of Asylum Hill Congregational Church and was active in her community throughout her lifetime; most important to Betty were family, church and friends. She was grateful for her wonderful life, and always appreciative of the beauty of nature, and concerned for our natural resources.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016 at Asylum Hill Congregational Church, 814 Asylum Avenue, Hartford. Burial at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Asylum Hill Congregational Church or the McAuley Resident's Fund.
