Barbara Newman Findlay, 93, of Bloomfield, CT formerly of Fairfield, CT died on Wednesday, December 7, 2016. Born in Waynesboro, PA on January 13, 1923, the daughter of the late Samuel and Matilda Newman, Barbara graduated from Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, PA, Class of 1940. She went on to Smith College in Northampton, MA, Class of 1944, and later earned a Masters Degree in Social Work from Columbia University, New York, NY in 1950. She worked and lived in New York City as a social worker. Barbara moved to Fairfield, CT and worked for many years for Catholic Charities Adoption Services, retiring in the early 1980's. She was a long-time member of the Democratic Town Committee and was elected to several terms as a member of the Planning and Zoning Board in the Town of Fairfield. Barbara leaves a brother, William Newman of Bloomfield, CT; five nieces and nephews, Gae Duckett of Burleson, TX, Megan Phillips of Carbondale, CO, John Newman of Seattle, WA, Katherine Newman of Moraga, CA, and Thomas Newman of Hebron CT, and many grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Newman of New York City, Emma Newman Kendall of Princeton, NJ, and Margaret Newman Heater of Carmel, CA.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to CT Audubon Society, 2325 Burr St., Fairfield, CT 06824.
