Anne Barton Twitchell, Bloomfield, CT, passed away on August 20th, 2016.

She was born on May 8, 1927 to Russell Pratt Barton & Martha deCourcy Barton of West Hartford. She graduated from Hall High School in 1945 and continued her education at Lasell Junior College and, in Boston, Forsythe School of Dental Hygienists. Anne & George Twitchell were married in 1948 while Anne was employed as a dental hygienist in Boston and George was a student at MIT. Following George's graduation in 1950, his engineering employment took them, first to Middletown, CT, and then to Arlington, MA. In 1953 they resettled in the West Hartford area, where they raised their family and lived for 55 years. In 2008 Anne & George moved to Seabury Retirement Community in Bloomfield.

Anne was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She delighted in providing every possible opportunity for her children - from cross-country camping road trips to ski vacations to sing-alongs. Her sense of adventure was captured best by the CT license plate "LETS GO" on her beloved Volkswagen convertible. She lived life to the fullest and was happiest when she was actively bicycling, skiing and hiking here and abroad, exploring her adopted state of Vermont, or swimming at Cape Cod or in the neighborhood pool. Anne was a talented artist & devoted animal lover. No matter how busy she was, her friends and family always came first. Anne was raised in the Church of Christ, Scientist. She and George attended the Universalist Church of West Hartford. Service was her passion - she was an active volunteer for her church and for her community. She started and for many years ran a solo volunteer cheer cart at a local convalescent home In 2007 she was honored for 40 years of service delivering meals for Meals on Wheels of CT.

Anne leaves her husband George G. Twitchell, her daughter Elizabeth (Betsy) T. Alexander and husband David of Columbia, MD, her sons Steven B. Twitchell and wife Bobbi of Bethel, CT and James P. Twitchell and wife Ellen of Chelmsford, MA, her eight grandchildren, Colin and Jeremy Alexander - Garrett, Adam and Audrey Twitchell - Jennifer, Kate and Kevin Twitchell, and extended family members Ellen S. Twitchell of Milford, CT and Gail Pond of Avon, CT.

Anne's family is grateful to the Seabury staff for the loving care she received.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Seabury Retirement Community. In lieu of flowers, a gift to a charity of your choice, or to the Alzheimer's Association, Americares, the Humane Society, the Universalist Church of West Hartford, or the Seabury Charitable Foundation is suggested
